The mountain range overlooks the tranquility of Lake Hawea in Central Otago, New Zealand where the reflections are soothing across the surface and the Yellow Tree Lupins decorate the lakeshore. The Yellow Tree Lupins spread very quickly and can cause some problems in other areas of New Zealand, but around Lake Hawea, when in full bloom, they are a picture of beauty emitting a wonderful aroma.
As the Yellow Tree Lupins flourish in the sunlight, they will reach a height of around 1 to 2 meters with grayish/green colored leaves and a cluster of yellow flowers blossoming near the top. Yellow is the most common color seen from these wildflowers, but they are also known to have lilac to purple colored flowers.
Lake Hawea is a glacier fed lake where people come to spend their summers on the beaches, swimming, fishing or kayaking amongst the scenery and the Yellow Tree Lupins.
