Walking over the rock formations in the Catlin's Forest at Curio Bay and Porpoise Bay in Southlands, NZ, a Yellow-eyed Penguin makes his way back to the nesting grounds.

What appears as a worried look upon the face of a Yellow-eyed Penguin is actually just the way the animal walks as it heads back to its nesting grounds. Walking over the rough terrain in the Catlin's Forest at Porpoise Bay and Curio Bay in Southland, NZ, this Yellow-eyed Penguin who is native to the area, is easily recognized by its yellow eyes and pink feet.

A bird that is classified as one of the most endangered species, has a slate grey coloring, white breast, yellow eyes and yellow band which goes from its eyes to the back of its head and finds the wilderness around the Catlin's Forest ideal for nesting and breeding.

Both genders of the Yellow-eyed Penguins are identical in their appearance except when they are juveniles when they lack the yellow eyes and bands. Every morning, the Yellow-eyed Penguin will venture off to its feeding grounds and every day at dusk, it will return to its nesting grounds to care for the young at the Petrified Forest in the Catlin's Forest in Southland, NZ.
