Photo & Vacation Spot

Beautiful bluish/purple wildflowers known as Viper's bugloss, thrive in the landscape of Lindi Pass in Central Otago on the South Island of New Zealand.

Growing to a height of between 30 and 80 centimeters, the Viper's bugloss decorates the rolling hills in the Lindis pass region in Central Otago, New Zealand. The Viper's bugloss thrives in dry, barren locations and blossoms anywhere from May to September.

These wildflowers start out in a pink coloring when beginning to bloom and change to a bluish/purple hue with red filaments which prominently stand out. It is best just to look and admire the beauty of these wildflowers or take a picture while hiking across this landscape, as the sharp spines which cover the plant resemble those of cactus and easily get lodged into the skin.

The wildflower Viper's bugloss, Echium vulgare, of the family Boraginaceae, seen in the Lindis, Central Otago, South Island, New Zealand.
