After disembarking a tour boat and being transferred to White Island by an inflatable boat, a group of tourists hike across the volcanic landscape to explore this active volcano. Sulphur deposits, craters and fumaroles are seen throughout the landscape which were created by three explosions.
The last major eruption was in 1953 leaving the volcano fairly quiet until 1976 when activity began again, nothing serious enough to cause any concern for the scientists. White Island is on close watch and any signs of unusual activity will stop tourists from visiting White Island until thoroughly investigated.
Each of the tourists in the group visiting White Island in the Bay of Plenty, New Zealand are supplied with hard hats and gas masks as a safety precaution. After exploring the volcano, the tourists are transferred back to the luxury vessels aboard the inflatable boat.
