Passengers scatter on the lower and upper decks of a vessel with Whale Watch Kaikoura on the South Island of New Zealand as they search the surface for the blow from the giant Sperm Whales. A fog bank lingers over the water making visibility a little tough, but passengers can easily locate the Sperm Whale by listening for the massive blows.
The Sperm Whale is a year-round resident around the South Island of New Zealand and chances of locating them while aboard Whale Watch Kaikoura is about a 95% success rate. Passengers may also find New Zealand Fur Seals, Dusky Dolphins, Hectors Dolphins, Orca, the Wandering Albatross and the possibility of Humpback Whales, Pilot Whales, Blue Whales and Southern Right Whales depending on the time of year.
The vessels with Whale Watch Kaikoura operate every day throughout the year except for Christmas Day unless the conditions on the water are unsafe. Each trip is approximately 2.5 hours in length and the number of passengers is kept well below maximum to ensure everyone enjoys a memorable experience.
