The cable car in the city of Wellington on the North Island of New Zealand runs from Lambton Quay in the centre of the city and tunnels under the buildings coming out in Kelburn. It continues on until it reaches the top of Upland Road where a world of fascinating attractions are located.
There are two cable cars which start at opposite ends of the track and they pass in the middle with the upper terminus being at the Wellington Botanic Gardens. The cable car system began running in 1902 with upgrades being done throughout the years but the lines were closed in 1978 and reopened in 1979 with new steel cars.
