While driving along State Highway 1 near the town of Ward which is located between Kaikoura and Blenheim on the South Island of New Zealand, the hills and farmland become illuminated during the sunset hours. The sun has disappeared behind the rolling hills but the glowing light still blankets the entire region in a yellow hue.
The scenery along State Highway 1 is picturesque as miles of farmland surround you, all which flourishes as the climate near the town of Ward is some of the sunniest New Zealand receives. The majority of summer days are extremely hot and the farmland remains dry while waiting for the arrival of winter which can be fairly cold and crisp, the exact mixture these hills and farmland need.
The highway is a quiet one and there are plenty of areas to pull off the highway near the town of Ward to enjoy the sunset scenery. Ward is a small town with a population of approximately 900 and many here enjoy the peaceful and laid back type of life with farming being one of the main sources of income.
