Sunset starts to take over the sky around the Castlepoint Lighthouse along the Wairarapa coastline on the North Island of New Zealand where the tower stands 23 meters high. The lantern atop the lighthouse will illuminate the area for 26 nautical miles which has helped many vessels through these waterways since the first time it was lit in 1913.
The winds, reefs and currents have reeked havoc on many vessels through the years, many which happened previous to the placement of the Castlepoint Lighthouse. Standing 52 meters above the water on the cliffs along the Wairarapa coastline, the lighthouse is one of the tallest on the North Island which became fully automated in 1988 and is now controlled from a central location in Wellington, New Zealand.
Castlepoint is a favorite location for vacationers making the lighthouse a very popular landmark on the North Island of New Zealand. Totally adorned in white except for the red lines around the base of the lighthouse, one will find the scenery of the Wairarapa coastline spectacular from the cliff where the lighthouse stands.
