At low tide at Waipapa Point along the Southern Scenic Route in Southland, New Zealand, the coastline is adorned with kelp, beach and rocks as the Waipapa Point Lighthouse stands in the backdrop.

In the backdrop, the Waipapa Point Lighthouse guards the coastline at Waipapa Point in the Catlins in Southland, New Zealand as a thin layer of clouds blankets the summer sky. This coastline is extremely dangerous for mariners and the Waipapa Point Lighthouse has aided many in their travels since 1884.

In 1881, before the lighthouse was erected at Waipapa Point, their was a disastrous civilian shipping accident which took the lives of 131 people. Since the lighthouse has watched over this coastline, there has never been a shipwreck which compares to this one.

The marine world comes alive along the coastline at low tide and bares the kelp, rocks, sea creatures and provides a beach to stroll along. Unique Paua Shells can be found along the beach at low tide as their home is the coastline of New Zealand, but if found, they can be admired but should be left to be taken back with the water.
