As the tide recedes at Waipapa Point in the Catlins in Southland, New Zealand, the sand along the beach becomes soft and mushy as pebbles and shells scatter themselves along the coastal shores. Waipapa Point is a section of land which juts out into the water on the South Island of New Zealand at the most southwestern end of the Catlins region.
These coastal waters have been known to be extremely hazardous for many ships passing through causing some serious shipwrecks over the years.
