The Southern Alps, the back bone of New Zealand's South Island, provide the backdrop for the City of Christchurch. In between the mountains and the city lie the sun drenched Canterbury Plains. On the opposite side of Christchurch lies the curved New Brighton Beach.
Christchurch is often the arrival and departure point for many a tourist to New Zealand, however the city, aka the Garden City, is as much a travel destination as any other part of the country.
