Cameras click as Lady Knox Geyser in the Waiotapu Thermal Area near Rotorua in the Bay of Plenty, New Zealand erupts as hundreds of tourists watch. Watching the Lady Knox Geyser has become a popular tourist attraction which is forced to erupt daily at 10:15 a.m.
Sometimes shooting to heights of 20 meters, Lady Knox Geyser has built up over the years in the shape of a cone. First founded by prisoners in 1901 who were working in the forest clearing the trees, they decided the water would be ideal for doing laundry in. When they added the soap to the hot water, the geyser exploded and clothes were shot upwards.
Today, the Lady Knox Geyser arouses the attention of many visiting the Waiotapu Thermal Area along with the other attractions such as the Champagne Pool, mud pools and silica terraces, all geothermal wonders of nature.
