Visitors can walk along the pier which extends into Tokomaru Bay in the East Cape on the North Island of New Zealand where one can enjoy the amazing scenery. The pier is also used by marine vessels who come to this small town located about 70 miles northeast of Gisborne.

Tokomaru Bay is a small, sheltered area which extends approximately 7 kilometers in width and was once a calling place for passenger ships during the early years of the 20th century. A whaling station was located at Tokomaru Bay when a European settlement resided here and still carries a Maori fortress.

Today the town of Tokomaru Bay relies on agriculture and forestry as a means of survival with the help of tourism. The 500 residents of Tokomaru Bay are mainly Maori people and the beliefs and cultures are very prominent in this region of the North Island of New Zealand.
