Surging through the silver birch forest of Mt Aspiring National Park, the waters of Thunder Creek Falls then plunge 28 metres to the Haast River before continuing on to the Tasman Sea.
As with most waterfalls along the Haast Highway and in Mt Aspiring National Park, the show is often more spectacular after heavy rainfall and gives meaning to the name. However, on a fine day the rhythmic, sensible flow of water has a calming and refreshing effect.
