The sunset lighting breaks through the dark clouds moving in over Te Werahi Beach, Motuopao Island and Cape Maria in Northland, NZ. From atop the cliffs at Cape Reinga, the sunset scenery is picturesque as the water becomes highlighted by the filtering rays of light while the water crashes around the rocky shores of Motuopao Island.
The cliffs are adorned in lush greenery and various types of vegetation, all which sway in the breeze that comes in off the water. Hiking trails make their way over the rocky cliffs at Cape Reinga eventually leading to the sandy shores at Te Werahi Beach which spans for 3 kilometers.
This lookout point at Cape Reinga is one of the best locations to watch a sunset decorate the sky over the northern most point of New Zealand, a short distance from the car park. The viewing areas at the Cape Reinga Lighthouse is also another place to watch the sunset hues fade off over the horizon.
