Atop the cliffs in Cape Reinga in Northland, New Zealand, visitors can enjoy the stunning coastal scenery as a beautiful sunset encompasses the sky over Te Werahi Beach, Motuopao Island and Cape Maria. The brilliance of the sunset lighting filters through the clouds spanning the horizon sending a bright ray of light across the surface of the water towards Cape Reinga.

From Cape Reinga, a well formed track which is approximately a 1.25 kilometer walk passing by steep cliffs, takes one to the beautiful sandy shores of a 3 kilometer stretch home to Te Werahi Beach. In the backdrop sits Motuopao Island which is located 200m off the tip of Cape Maria Van Diemen where a lighthouse once guarded over these waters. Now used as a scientific reserve, there is very little human activity allowed to take place on this island.

This entire coastline is breathtaking and Cape Reinga is the ideal location to sit and watch a sunset take over the coastal sky.
