Reaching 29.9 meters in height with a trunk height of 10.21 meters, a trunk girth of 16.41 meters and a trunk volume of 208.1 cubic meters, this Kauri tree known as Te Matua Ngahere is the 2nd largest Kauri Tree in New Zealand. It is over 2,000 years old and tourists to the Waipoua Forest in Northland, New Zealand can follow a 20 minute path leading visitors right to this Kauri tree, many also know it as the Father of the Forest.
The path is well surfaced, wheelchair accessible and along the way, people can experience various aspects of this amazing forest. Kauri trees are a highlight along the trails along with podocarp/hardwood, vegetation which is mainly kauri, kauri grass, kiekie, neinei and ferns.
