In the sunset lighting, the Cape Reinga Lighthouse stands high on the cliff in Cape Reinga in Northland, New Zealand where it watches over these treacherous waters. The pink, yellow and purple hues at sunset span across the horizon where the clouds begin to thicken over the water.
The lighthouse is 165 meters above sea level and when storms whip across these waters, a place where the Pacific Ocean and Tasman Sea meet, the water can explode against the coastal cliffs to a height of 10 meters. Guarding this Cape Reinga coastline since 1941, it was tended to by a lighthouse keeper, but since 1987, the light has been automated.
The scenery of the coastline of Cape Reinga in Northland, New Zealand is spectacular, but the sunsets which are created here are hard to find elsewhere.
