At the Auckland Zoo in New Zealand, there are two Sumatran Tiger residents, but these animals are solitary animals, so each one has their own separate habitat. This one spends some quiet time on the rocks while sleeping amongst the large green leaves.
The Sumatran Tiger is the smallest of the tiger subspecies with adult males being about 300 pounds and females only reaching approximately 200 pounds. Its beautiful markings and smaller size, makes it easy for the Sumatran Tiger in the wild to hide beneath the vegetation when stalking prey. Their main source of meat comes from ungulates, tapir and deer and sometimes fowl and fish.
