Spirits Bay is located on the northern tip of the North Island of New Zealand where the surrounding scenery is very quiet and serene. The bay achieved its name from the Maori people as it was told that the spirits of the dead leave from here on their adventure to the afterlife.
Spirits Bay spans 12 kilometers across which winds around the landscape and due to how far north this location is, it never seems to become overly crowded. People come here to surf during the summer months as the beach is exposed and the offshore winds are fairly constant which brings in some decent waves especially when the tide is on the rise.
