White clouds scatter themselves above Spirits Bay in Northland, New Zealand where a fisherman casts his line into the water while enjoying the serenity surrounding the beach. Many local fishermen from Northland, New Zealand, come to the beach at Spirits Bay on a regular basis to spend the day here to see what they can catch, a favorite past time.
Situated at the northern tip of the North Island, the region has some beautiful scenery and is very peaceful except for the waves breaking onto the sandy beach and the calls echoing through the breeze from various species of wildlife. Covering a distance of 12 kilometers across, there is plenty of beach for the fishermen while in other areas, surfers take to the waves.
Spirits Bay received its name from a legend as the Maori people believed that the spirits from the passing of people would depart from this bay to begin their travel to the afterlife.
