Stunning Victorian architecture dating back to the 1800's displayed on the facade of the Smiths Grain Store in the historic precinct of Oamaru in Otago, New Zealand.

The facade of the Smiths Grain Store in the historic precinct of Oamaru, Otago on the South Island of New Zealand, displays its beautiful Victorian architecture along Tyne Street.

The historic building was built by James Johnston in 1881 and 1882 and was large enough to store 30,000 sacks of grain when the industry was booming. From 1906 - 1970, the building was used for the production of the local newspaper, the Oamaru Mail.

In this region of Oamaru, New Zealand, there are over 20 buildings named as historic all which have been preserved and properly maintained. Many of these sites are open to visitors who want to tour through these stunning buildings. Shops in this area of Oamaru consist of a bookbinder, a cobbler and curio shops which blend in with the theme of the historic precinct.
