A sheepdog statue stands atop a rock monument in the sunlight on the shores of Lake Tekapo in Canterbury on the South Island of New Zealand.

The Sheepdog statue erected on a rock foundation on the lakeshore of Lake Tekapo in Canterbury on the South Island of New Zealand is a monument to the hard working Collie Sheepdogs who worked on the farms in the Mackenzie County. Without the help of these sheepdogs, the mountainous country would have been impossible to keep intact.

Scottish shepherds came to the eastern South Island during the 19th century, bringing with them their Collie Sheepdogs. The sunlight glistens off the bronze Sheepdog statue which was put in place above Lake Tekapo on March 7th, 1968.
