Hiking through the wilderness of Westland National Park on the South Island of New Zealand, the scenic views of Mount Cook are breathtaking. As the clouds block out a large portion of the mountain, the snow covered peak manages to reflect in the summer sun. Tall grass blankets the landscape which is extremely dry in the hot summer months, but the trees still flourish and sway in the breeze which passes by the base of Mount Cook.
Highway 6 is the only entrance into Westland National Park and this is where hikers and mountain climbers begin their adventures. Four huts are located throughout the park which are used by the more experienced climbers.
