Branches begin to hang and become weighed down as apricot season nears its end and the fruit is ready for picking in an orchard near Roxburgh in Central Otago, New Zealand. Colored in bright orange and red hues, each tree has hundreds of apricots on it, some which have already fallen to the ground below.
The climate and soil in this orchard near Roxburgh is ideal for apricot growing and between all the fruit grown throughout this region, approximately 6.6 thousand tons are reaped yearly. The apricot is one type of fruit grown here along with cherries, nectarines, peaches and apples, all which ripen beautifully.
The days ahead for the commercial pickers working in these orchards will consist of a tremendous amount of long hours to ensure the best fruit is crated for shipment. It is a beautiful sight when wandering the paths amongst the apricot trees as the red, yellow and orange hues on the fruit glisten in the sunlight.
