The rugged coastline at Waipapa Point in Southland, New Zealand displays its kelp at low tide and leaves behind a pristine sandy beach which is an ideal location for a romantic stroll. An elderly couple enjoy the fresh air blowing in off the ocean, the sounds of the waves lapping up onto the beach and the breathtaking scenery of Waipapa Point.
A very deserted beach where very little human activity is found which creates a paradise for the New Zealand Sea Lions in the area. They can be seen hauling themselves onto the sandy beach to spend some precious hours tanning in the summer sun.
While traveling the Southern Scenic Route in the Catlins, be sure to look for the signs to see the beauty of Waipapa Point. Low tide is the best time of day for a stroll on the beach but the scenery is always beautiful.
