The Queen Charlotte Drive on the South Island of NZ, will allow visitors to overlook the magnificent scenery of the Queen Charlotte Sound in Marlborough from above. There are two main sounds in this area, the Pelorus Sound and the Queen Charlotte Sound, the only thing separating them is a few hundreds meters at Portage Bay.
The Queen Charlotte Drive begins at Havelock climbing the steep hills where the scenery is breathtaking and continuing until reaching Picton, NZ. The turquoise colored water of the sound swirls below as the sandy beaches run along the coastal shores.
The Queen Charlotte Drive consists of narrow and winding roads and one should allow plenty of time to explore this region as travel can be fairly slow. Many choose not to take this route while visiting the South Island of NZ, but it is one which is well worth it as the scenery of the Marlborough Sounds is one that is not easily forgotten along the Queen Charlotte Drive.
