The Pukaki River or Canal shows off its unique blue hues as it makes it way through Canterbury on the South Island of New Zealand. As the control gates are open at the hydroelectric station, the blue hues of the river rush through creating a stir as it causes the surface to become blanketed with a white foam. As the river continues downstream, the blue coloring returns to its original form on its way towards Lake Benmore.
This river is glacier fed which is why the water is such a beautiful blue hue. The Pukaki River makes its way through three hydroelectric plants before reaching the lake. Visitors to Canterbury, New Zealand cannot miss the beauty of the river as it separates the landscape into two distinct areas.
