At sunset, soft pink, yellow and purple hues span the sky above Cape Reinga in Northland on the North Island of New Zealand creating breathtaking scenery. The water shows its ripples as the lighting reflects off the surface while the Cape Reinga Lighthouse begins to flash atop the high cliffs as darkness begins to take over in Cape Reinga.
Sitting at 165 meters above sea level, the Cape Reinga Lighthouse watches over these waters where the Tasman Sea and the Pacific Ocean meet. As calm and as beautiful the coastal shores of Cape Reinga appear at sunset, the water can become very ferocious at times reaching 10 meters high up the coastal cliffs.
