When summer arrives in New Zealand, the crowds at Piha Beach near Auckland on the North Island quickly increase. Swimming, surfing, sand castle building, tanning, walking and exploring are a few of the summer activities at Piha Beach.

The waves coming in off the Tasman Sea grow, making this one of the best surfing areas near Auckland, New Zealand. Surf boards are seen from the early morning hours until the later hours in the evening.

There are patrolled swimming areas along the beach as the surf, rips and currents are very powerful and dangerous even for the best of water lovers. When the water is at its lowest, there is a beautiful beach at the northern end of Piha Beach and one at the southern end, both being used by the crowds of people.

Piha Beach is a 45 minute drive from Auckland, making it easy for families to pack up for a fun filled summer day. This small coastal village situated in the Waitakere Ranges has camping, restaurants, shops, accommodations and all the amenities needed to live in a laid back atmosphere.
