Known as a large rodent, the Patagonian Cavy Mara is an animal who resides in Central and Southern Argentina, but there are some who live at the Auckland Zoo in New Zealand. As this pair rests in the sun, their stocky bodies have the same appearance as a long-legged rabbit with a brown body and head, a white underside and a dark colored behind which is bordered in white.
The Patagonian Cavy Mara can reach speeds of up to 18 miles per hour and when fully grown, their weight is approximately 25 pounds. Their main source of nourishment comes from grass and other types of herbage.
Many of the Patagonian Cavy Maras are kept in zoos, while some people find they make unique pets. A social type of animal if raised with humans, but if they reside in the wild, they will stay as far away from humans as possible.
