Visitors to and local residents of Oamaru, Otago on the South Island of New Zealand, moor their boats in the harbour where the Little Blue Penguins often come ashore during the evening hours. Other frequent visitors to the coastal shores, are the Yellow-Eyed Penguins.
Summer time brings an assortment of travelers to the harbour where they can stroll along an old wooden wharf and view the assortment of crafts made by the local people. The buildings along the waterfront of the town of Oamaru, Otago have been restored to their Victorian style along with the Tyne Historic Precinct. The harbour is a short walk to the town centre where there are a variety of shops, restaurants and accommodations.
