From the Nugget Point Lighthouse in Otago on the South Island of NZ, the scenery of the rugged coast, home to Nugget Point is beautiful. Massive rocks which emerge out of the surface of the water resemble that of nuggets, hence the name, as the waves crash around them.
The lighthouse stands 250 feet above the rocks where you can overlook the greenery growing across the surface of the cliffs, making its way down to the water's edge. Many people travel along the Southern Scenic Route in Otago, NZ to visit Nugget Point where snorkeling in the shallow water provides an excellent view of the reefs and kelp. Various types of wildlife such as penguins, seabirds, seals, fish, dolphins and whales are frequent visitors to the rugged coastal area of Nugget Point, making this the ideal location to explore the natural beauty of the South Island.
