When the tide is out at Ninety Mile Beach near Hukatere, New Zealand, the sandy shores become wider making it a longer walk for people heading out to the sea to enjoy their summer fun of surfing or swimming. A few of these tourists head out with surfboards in hand while others simply like to stroll along the beach and feel the sand squish beneath their toes.
Ninety Mile Beach is not 90 miles in length but several stories from early years may explain why this beach was named this. The entire length of the the beach is about 55 miles, allowing ample room for tourists interested in an assortment of summer beach activities.
Located on the western coast of the north end of the North Island of New Zealand, Ninety Mile Beach is becoming busier every year as more tourists come here to view the unique dunes, some which are 4 miles in width and up to 469 feet in height. Many of the local people of New Zealand, use the dunes for body boarding.
