White, frothy ridges of water are formed by the Tasman Sea as its moves towards the rugged shores of the coast at Muriwai Beach near Auckland, New Zealand. Muriwai Beach is a coastal community on the West Coast of the North Island of New Zealand and sits at the southern end of an unbroken 50 kilometer stretch of beach along the coast of the Tasman Sea. There are approximately 2,000 residents that call Muriwai Beach home which they share with a colony of Australasian Gannets from about August through to March.
Sitting on the flat surface of the rock above the Tasman Sea, is a colony of Australasian Gannets which use the rocky coastline at Muriwai Beach as a nesting and breeding area. There are about 1,200 pairs of gannets which return to Muriwai Beach each year and from the cliffs above, overlooking the coast, visitors to Auckland, New Zealand can watch these birds in their natural environment while enjoying the scenery.
From the cliffs, the gannets will soar to the depths below and snag their next meal from the churning waters of the Tasman Sea. Muriwai Beach is about 42 kilometers from Auckland, New Zealand and has become a popular place for visitors while the birds are nesting.
