The roadside scenery in Canterbury on the South Island of New Zealand breaks open to the beautiful blue colors of Lake Pukaki, the snow covered peaks of Mt. Cook and the rugged Southern Alps. The lake is glacier fed which creates the unique shade of blue and spans an area for approximately eighty square kilometers.
The snow covered peaks of Mt. Cook rise up out of the landscape to a height of 3,764 meters, it being the highest mountain of the Southern Alps. During the summer months, many mountain climbers try and fight the rugged cliffs of Mt. Cook and during the winter, skiers find paradise atop these peaks.
