In the backdrop, Mt. Cook, known as the highest of the 27 mountains around New Zealand, stands at 3,764 meters allowing the snow covered peak to glisten in the sunlight. The Southern Alps extend from Mt. Cook, all which tower over the beauty and serenity of Lake Pukaki.
From the cliffs above Lake Pukaki in Canterbury, New Zealand, the scenery is picturesque as the glass surface of the unique blue colored lake flows around the islands and shoreline. The glacier colored waters of Lake Pukaki are fed from the Tasman River which started from the melting of the Hooker and Tasman Glaciers.
Lake Pukaki is fringed by forest, grasslands, the Southern Alps and Mt. Cook, the later two being created approximately 25 million years ago. Overlooking Lake Pukaki in Canterbury, New Zealand is a favorite location for photographers passing through the area.
