The yellow centers surrounded by purple petals on these wildflowers, blossom in a cluster in the volcanic soil of Mount Ruapehu in Tongariro National Park on the North Island of New Zealand. As spring arrives on the North Island, a variety of wildflowers can be seen emerging into an array of hues across the landscape of Mount Ruapehu.
After a volcano has erupted, the entire landscape around the region is wiped clean and it takes years for any sign of nature to resurface. The last eruption of Mount Ruapehu was in 1975 and the area has once again become alive with wildflowers, plants and wildlife.
