At the Motu River mouth near Opotiki in the Bay of Plenty, New Zealand, the waterway climbs over the gravel sand bars while the surrounding landscape consists of deserted hills blanketed in a dense rainforest. The cloud formations sweep across the sky while off in the horizon, a slight mist limits the visibility around the area.
Being a major waterway in the eastern end of the North Island of New Zealand, the Motu River follows along the coastline on the southern side of the Raukumara Range near Opotiki. Continuing east, the Motu River meets up with very important tributaries before emptying into the Bay of Plenty.
The Motu River is used for white water rafting and jet boating tours but many still prefer the simply life of fishing from the shores. At the Motu River mouth near Opotiki in the Bay of Plenty, experienced surfers can be seen here testing out the waves and practicing their skills.
