Maruia Falls Murchison South Island
Photo & Vacation Spot

The meandering Maruia River on the South Island drops 10 metres over an escarpment to create the Maruia Falls which resulted from an earthquake in 1929.

The river actually changed course after the 1929 earthquake, choosing a path which sent it plunging over the 10 metre cliff to continue its journey toward the Buller River.
