Flax weaving is part of the culture of the Maori people which girls are taught at a young age by their mothers. This art is passed down from generation to generation along with the spiritual beliefs of the Maori people.
At the Wairakei Terraces in Waikato on the North Island of New Zealand, visitors can watch a demonstration of Maori woman flax weaving. As they weave, they create beautiful artwork some which consist of baskets, bags, purses, clothes and briefcases.
