At the Wairakei Terraces near Taupo on the North Island of New Zealand, visitors get a true sense of how the Maori people lived. A Maori warrior and maiden kneel beside a waterfall with a conch shell which they use to drink from. The maiden fills the conch shell with water from the cascading waterfall and gives it to the warrior to drink, refilling it if necessary. When the warrior has had enough, the maiden can then refill the conch and drink what she needs.
In the early days, there was no running tap water and a waterfall was the only place to get clean water for drinking for people all over the world. At the Wairakei Terraces, the people are adorned in Maori tattoos and traditional clothing.
