The Department of Conservation Info Centre was built to enhance a wider community understanding and the respect well deserved for the Maori people and their traditions and cultures. The Department of Conservation Info Centre is open every day except Christmas Day with closing an hour earlier in winter than summer. Established in the 1960's, the centre offers visitors information and orientation, interpretative displays, audio visual shows, quality merchandise, maps, walking information and this stunning wooden panel.
Tongariro National Park in NZ is a park which recognizes the importance of Maori cultural and the spiritual associations along with the unique volcanic landscape. Being the oldest national park throughout NZ, it was recognized by UNESCO as one of 25 mixed cultural and natural World Heritage Sites.
