Two of the lions at the Auckland Zoo in New Zealand, rest near some logs in the partial shade in the Pridelands area while visitors stop to take their picture and admire their beauty. At the zoo, the trainers try to hide their food on a regular basis around the Pridelands area so that the lions can use their natural hunting traits.
In the African wilderness, lions can be found in the open savannah and grasslands where they use their loud roars to communicate which can be heard as far as 10 kilometers away. The female lions grow to be about 150 kilograms when fully mature with the males weighing close to 200 kilograms.
Fast, agile and powerful animals both in the wild and in captivity, visitors can experience a close encounter with these lions twice a week at the Auckland Zoo.
