The mountainous landscape rises quickly along the shores of the glacier waters of Lake Wakatipu near Queenstown in Central Otago, New Zealand which creates picturesque scenery for visitors to the area. Lake Wakatipu spans a distance of 80 kilometers and reaches depths of 100 meters below sea level in some areas. Covering approximately 291 square kilometers, Lake Wakatipu is the third largest lake in the country and the longest lake found throughout New Zealand.
Lake Wakatipu is surrounded by mountains and lush forest with the Remarkables mountain range running along the southeastern edge. Many tourists come to this region for skiing in the winter and paragliding, bungy jumping and the tramping tracks throughout the rest of the year.
