As the sun warms the shores of Lake Hawea in Central Otago, New Zealand, the Yellow Tree Lupins begin to blossom and decorate the landscape. These wildflowers can reach between 1 and 2 meters, topped with yellow clusters of flowers which create a beautiful start to the tranquil scenery around Lake Hawea.
When the mass of Yellow Tree Lupins thins out, other types of vegetation grows until it reaches the water's edge where the scenery becomes even more beautiful with the landscape reflecting off the surface of the glacier carved lake. Surrounding the lake is the mountainous landscape which adds to the spectacular scenery as the highest peaks are still scattered with snow.
Lake Hawea is becoming a popular holiday retreat where people tan, boat, fish and swim during the summer months and ski the surrounding slopes during the winter.
