Weaving its way through the Cromwell Gorge between the towns of Clyde and Cromwell in Central Otago on the South Island of New Zealand, one will find Lake Dunstan. The green hues of Lake Dunstan span from the town of Clyde until reaching the town of Cromwell with one arm making its way up the Kawarau River to Bannockburn and the other widening over the Lowburn Flats, all which covers approximately 26 square kilometers.
A man-made lake which formed on the Clutha River from the construction of the Clyde Dam during the 1990's and now provides irrigation for the fruit orchards and vineyards. During its construction, many places in the town of Cromwell were relocated and one major landslide occurred causing quite a disturbance in the area.
Today, many tourists come to Lake Dunstan during the summer to enjoy the lake activities such as boating, waterskiing, fishing, rowing, swimming, jet skiing and the amazing scenery.
