A popular tourist attraction at the Waiotapu Thermal Area near Rotorua, New Zealand is the Lady Knox Geyser. Everyday at 10:15 in the morning, crowds of people gather around the geyser waiting for the eruption which is forced by the help of humans.
The white cone shaped geyser, which has built up over the years, is forced to erupt and often reaches heights of up to 20 meters. Back in 1901, it was by accident that the geyser was discovered by a group of prisoners when they were clearing some of the trees. They used the hot water to do their laundry but when they added soap to it, the eruption began and the prisoners were scrambling for their clothes as it was shot upwards out of the water.
Today, Lady Knox Geyser intrigues crowds of people on a daily basis who came to the Waiotapu Thermal Area. This is definitely an attraction to see while touring the North Island of New Zealand.
