A flightless species of endangered bird is the Kiwi and travelers to Westland on the West Coast of the South Island of New Zealand will see some odd looking road signs relating to this bird. The Kiwi bird lives in the wilderness on the South Island and will venture across the road at any given time, more so as evening approaches.
The road sign will keep drivers wary of these birds and to be especially alert for any of them on the roads. The Kiwi bird is the national icon of New Zealand and a sign helping to keep these animals around is a little sacrifice over having them become extinct.
