A bee finds paradise in a field where the lavender is in full bloom in the small town of Kihikihi near Hamilton on the North Island of New Zealand. Fields of lavender blankets the landscape in Kihikihi which is then harvested and processed into lavender oil and used in an assortment of beauty products.
The lavender is a plant which attracts bees, butterflies and/or birds with an extremely fragrant aroma to the flowers. The bees see this field as a broad spectrum of light and immediately head towards it to collect the pollen.
The plant grows to be about 36-48 inches in height and requires about 4-6 feet in between each one to allow enough space for growth and direct sunlight. The leaves are small, narrow and smooth-edged while the flowers grow in whorls of about 6-10 blooms on each spike.
